Editorial Policy

Last updated: June 2025

1. Independence

PickyAI operates independently from the AI tool vendors we cover. We do not accept payment in exchange for positive reviews, higher rankings, or inclusion in any list. Our editorial decisions are made solely based on merit and user relevance.

We may have affiliate relationships with some tools (see our Affiliate Disclosure). These relationships have no influence whatsoever on our scores, rankings, or written assessments. A tool we earn commissions from can receive — and has received — low scores when warranted.

2. Tool Selection

We decide which tools to review based on the following criteria:

  • Genuine user demand and search interest
  • Novelty or meaningful differentiation from existing tools
  • Relevance to the categories we cover (writing, image, coding, video, audio, productivity, and business)
  • Minimum viability — the tool must be publicly available and stable enough to test

We do not accept review requests from vendors or prioritize tools based on commercial relationships. Any vendor can contact us to request a review, but we make no guarantees about timing or outcome.

3. Testing Process

Every tool we review undergoes hands-on testing by at least one member of our team. We do not publish reviews based solely on feature lists, press releases, or marketing materials.

Our standard testing period is a minimum of two weeks of regular use. For complex or expensive tools, we extend this period. Testing involves:

  • Using the tool for real work tasks relevant to its category
  • Testing across multiple use cases and complexity levels
  • Evaluating the free tier (where applicable) and at least one paid tier
  • Assessing support quality by contacting customer service
  • Comparing output directly against close competitors

4. Scoring Methodology

We score tools on a 1–10 scale across five dimensions, with the final score being a weighted average:

Output Quality

35%

How good are the results the tool produces for its core use case?

Ease of Use

25%

How fast can a new user get real value? Is the interface intuitive?

Value for Money

20%

Is the pricing fair relative to what you get? Are free tier limits reasonable?

Reliability

15%

Does the tool work consistently? Are there frequent outages, errors, or slowdowns?

Support

5%

Is help available and responsive when things go wrong?

5. Content Updates

The AI tools landscape changes rapidly. We are committed to keeping our reviews accurate. Our update policy:

  • We re-test tools whenever a major update is released
  • Reviews older than 6 months are flagged for re-evaluation
  • Pricing information is checked monthly
  • We add an “Updated” date stamp to all substantively revised reviews
  • If a tool is discontinued or drastically changes, we update the review immediately

6. Corrections Policy

We are committed to accuracy. If we publish an error — factual, technical, or otherwise — we correct it promptly and clearly note the correction at the bottom of the article. We do not silently edit published articles to remove mistakes.

If you spot an error or believe a review is inaccurate, please contact us. We take all feedback seriously.

7. AI-Assisted Content

We occasionally use AI tools to assist with research, outlining, or proofreading. However, all reviews, scores, and editorial judgments are made by human writers and editors. We never publish AI-generated reviews of AI tools without full human oversight and verification.
